Open Access Policy

Open Access Policy

Archipelagic Studies in Language, Literature, and Education (ASLLE) is a fully open access scholarly journal. All published scholarly content is made freely and permanently available online immediately upon publication, without subscription charges, access fees, registration requirements, or embargo periods.

ASLLE supports the principle that open access to scholarly knowledge promotes the wider dissemination, visibility, verification, reuse, and development of research.

Immediate Open Access

All research articles published by ASLLE are available in full text immediately after publication.

Readers are not required to register, subscribe, or make payment to access published articles. The journal does not apply delayed open access or embargo periods to scholarly articles.

Licensing

Unless otherwise explicitly indicated for specific third-party material, articles published in ASLLE are distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0).

Under this license, users may share, copy, redistribute, adapt, remix, transform, and build upon the published material for lawful purposes, including commercial use, provided that appropriate credit is given to the original author(s), a link to the license is provided, and any changes made to the material are indicated.

The journal does not impose additional restrictions that conflict with the terms of the applicable Creative Commons license.

Copyright

Authors retain copyright in their published work unless another lawful copyright arrangement applies.

By publishing with ASLLE, authors grant the journal the right of first publication and the non-exclusive right to publish, distribute, preserve, and make the Version of Record publicly available under the journal's stated open access license.

Copyright arrangements must remain consistent with the journal's open access and licensing policies.

Author Self-Archiving

Authors are permitted to deposit versions of their work in institutional, subject-based, or other appropriate scholarly repositories.

This may include:

  • the submitted manuscript or preprint;
  • the Author Accepted Manuscript;
  • the published Version of Record.

ASLLE does not impose an embargo on repository deposit of these versions, provided that the published Version of Record is appropriately cited when available.

Access and Reuse

Users may read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, link to, crawl, index, text-mine, and otherwise lawfully use openly licensed journal content in accordance with the applicable license.

Open access applies to the scholarly content of the journal and does not imply that third-party material incorporated into an article is automatically covered by the article's license.

Authors are responsible for identifying third-party materials that are subject to different copyright or licensing conditions and for obtaining any permissions required for their inclusion.

Machine Access and Indexing

ASLLE permits legitimate scholarly indexing, harvesting, crawling, and metadata reuse in accordance with applicable technical standards and licensing terms.

The journal supports scholarly discovery through mechanisms including article-level metadata, persistent article URLs, OAI-PMH, scholarly indexing metadata, and other interoperable publishing standards supported by the journal platform.

Long-Term Availability

ASLLE is committed to maintaining continuing public access to its scholarly record. Digital preservation and archiving arrangements are described separately in the journal's Digital Archiving and Preservation Policy.

Policy Consistency

The Open Access Policy must be interpreted together with the journal's Copyright and Licensing Policy, Publication Ethics Policy, Author Charges Policy, and Digital Archiving and Preservation Policy.

Where third-party copyrighted materials are included in an article, the rights applicable to those materials must be clearly identified and must not be misrepresented as being covered by the article's open license.
